Here's one of the most popular and versatile casting rods in the entire G.Loomis line, capable of fishing a variety of lures and techniques. A good rod for topwater lures, it's also an excellent choice for grubs and worms, especially when fishing clear water with 10-12 pound test. Yet it will handle larger worms and up to 3/8 ounce jigs. It has enough power to move fish away from cover, but it's much better as an open water rod.

It has a powerful tip, which allows for a good hook set, with ample power to move fish away from heavy cover, but it still has the flexibility to fish a "super-spook" for surface action. Where this rod really shines is throwing jigs and worms around docks, tule berms, rock outcroppings and other visible ambush points. An ultra-light trolling rod for trout and kokanee, designed to fish small lures or bait with a downrigger system. More to the point, it's designed to help you enjoy catching these small fish again. A good Choice for fishing light to medium jigs and worms, the 783 was designed to fish bass, northerns and even walleyes in certain applications. But it also makes a very nice light saltwater rod for snook, redfish and specs. It's powerful, with a light tip, which allows for a good hookset, and still has enough power to move fish away from cover, without feeling too stiff. If we had to choose one casting rod for all of our fishing, the 783 would be our choice.

When you pitch a jig into a small, brushy opening, you have to pull the fish out of that same hole. There's no getting around it. And when those fish are 5-pound-plus largemouths, your rod had better be stout.
